Koi Ponds Using Pool Filters

Koi ponds using pool filters is an idea. Just probably not a good one. Why is that? Well koi ponds using pool filters present several problems. In other words this idea comes up short for several reasons.

Yes it correct that pool sand filters are "mechanical" filters. Yet swimming pool filters are not set up to do the bio-filtering you need to do with a pond.

Then too you've usually got a lot more "gunk" to filter out of pond water than you do with a swimming pool. Especially if your backyard pond has fish in it. That might tend to make a swimming pool filter much less useful. Since you may find it clogs up fast.

By and large the majority of pool pumps are also very energy inefficient. In other words you can save mega bucks on your electric bill using a pond pump designed for the job.
Finally in some cases the pump may not be up to the task. It may not be capable of 24 hour a day use.

So koi ponds using pool filters is a possibility. Just not your best move.
